How to Book Your Practical Driving Test * Updated DVSA process*
Before You Book Your Test
Before selecting a test date, you must ensure the following:
-
Your instructor has confirmed that you are ready to book
-
You have been given an approximate timeframe for when your instructor is available for tests
-
You have checked for any instructor annual leave or known diary restrictions
This helps prevent booking a test at a time your instructor cannot attend.
Step 1:
When your instructor advises that you are ready to book, please contact the office on 07904 523560. The office will record your name, contact number and instructor’s name, then issue your instructor’s reference number for use during the DVSA booking process.
This number is required by the DVSA to ensure your instructor is free on the date you choose.
Step 2: Book Your Test Online
Visit: https://www.gov.uk/book-driving-test
You will need:
-
Your driving licence
-
A form of payment
-
Your driving instructor’s reference number
The DVSA will use this number to check that your instructor does not already have a test booked at the same time.

What Happens Next?
DVSA Test Changes
Any changes to your test date or time will be emailed to you directly by the DVSA.
It is essential that you forward these emails to the office as soon as possible so we can update your instructor’s diary and avoid any clashes.
Important Notes:
-
If a test is booked outside the timeframe advised by your instructor, you may be required to change the date.
-
If a test is booked during a period of instructor annual leave, the pupil may be required to rearrange the test.
-
Go Direct cannot be held responsible for tests booked without following the above steps.
Instructor Vehicle Use
If your instructor feels that you are not currently at test standard, they may withdraw the use of their vehicle for the practical test. This is done in the interest of safety and in accordance with DVSA guidelines.
Pre‑Test Lesson
On the day of your test, a 2‑hour fee is payable to your instructor. This covers a 1‑hour lesson before the test and 1 hour for the use of the instructor’s vehicle during the test itself
